The Beginning

In an ongoing effort to further enhance the security of data stored on University of Connecticut computers, University Information Technology Services (UITS) has coordinated a campus wide computer encryption implementation initiative. Through Governor Rell’s mandate which was endorsed by President Hogan, a team of University personnel worked to develop a comprehensive program to install McAfee EndPoint Encryption (MEE), software.  A UITS implementation team was created   to assist staff and faculty with the installation of  encryption between March of 2009 and  May 1, 2010.  This team worked to install MEE software on many University-owned Windows-based desktops and  laptops throughout various departments on the Storrs and Regional campuses.

Encryption at a Glance

What is encryption?

Encryption is the conversion of data into a format that cannot be easily understood by unauthorized people. Decryption  is the process of converting encrypted data back into its original format so it can be understood. Many Windows-based UConn  computers have been encrypted with the UITS supported McAfee Endpoint Encryption (MEE) software package. About the Software »
